What 3 Sleep Positions Are BEST for Lower Back Pain?!

Do you suffer from low back pain? Don’t worry you are not alone. Lower back pain has been labeled the leading cause for disability across the globe. What’s interesting is that most low back pain isn’t necessarily brought on by a serious medical condition, but rather strain from bad posture, stress, sleeping positions or other bad lifestyle habits.

Below are some excellent low back pain sleeping positions to try!

Sleeping on side (Fetal position)

If you have a herniated disc this is the sleep position for you.

Lay on side and tuck knees toward chest and curl torso into knees. Remember to switch sides occasionally to help with imbalances.

Sleeping on side, pillow between knees

If laying on your back flat is uncomfortable try the side life!

Have your right or left shoulder touch the mattress along with the rest of the side of your body. Place a pillow between your knees. If you experience a gap between your waist and the mattress, try adding a small pillow for support.

Sleeping flat on back, pillow under knees

Sleeping on your back may be the only form of relief for your back pain.

Lay flat on your back. Place a pillow under your knees and remember to keep your spine neutral. The pillow is important in that it works to curve your lower back.

Stretch Calves: Stand at arms distance from the wall and place right food behind left. Slowly bend left leg forward. Keep the right knee straight. Hold stretch for 10-30 seconds then release. X3 then reverse legs and repeat.

Foot rolls: Grab any of these items, foam roller, water bottle or frozen can/water bottle. While seated, roll your foot back and forth on the item of choice. Practice this for 60 seconds then switch.

Chiropractic: What to Bring to Appointment After an Accident

So, you’ve just been in a car accident, and you have scheduled a chiropractic appointment. Now what?! Patients that seek chiropractic care post car accident are looking for a drug free, natural way to repair injuries and better promote overall health. Visiting Total Health Chiropractic once released from hospital/doctor can help aid in the healing process of injuries not detected such as soft tissue damage, migraine disorders and whiplash. Even if it’s the tiniest auto collision, your concern shouldn’t end when leaving the scene. Your vehicle may not show any damage, but our bodies can sustain injury even at the lowest of speeds. Chiropractic care can make recovery faster and get you back to normal activities with less interruption time.

If a patient has been involved in a car accident you will be asked to bring with you more information than a regular first-time chiropractic adjustment appointment. Below is a guide on what to bring and why.

Insurance Information: When being treated by one of our chiropractors we ask that insurance information be provided to us. Whether this is your personal insurance information, the at-fault driver’s insurance information, or med pay information provided from your auto policy. At Total Health Chiropractic we accept most insurance plans. Call our office today for more information 423-517-7000.

Photo ID: You will need to bring a photo ID to be seen by a chiropractor. It’s essential for us to verify your identity and have a copy of your ID on file.

Attorney Info: If you don’t have an attorney, we can refer you to one. However, if you are already working with one, it is beneficial to provide us with their contact info for us to reach them. The attorney will need to sign a lien with the office granting medical bills to be paid upon settlement of your case.

Claim #/Police Report: On your first visit post-accident having a copy of the police report can be extremely crucial. We do have many patients however that visit us before the police report is available, and in those cases, we just ask that you provide us with a claim number so that we can obtain the report at a later date. It is important to be seen by a chiropractor as quickly as possible post-accident. If any of the information above is lacking, we always work with our patients to gather missing information on a later date. We do encourage patients to be as prepared as possible when visiting for the first time.

At Total Health Chiropractic, we offer a team of compassionate, and comprehensive chiropractic care for help with injuries that follow car accidents. Our licensed and trained chiropractic team will evaluate your injuries, discuss treatment goals and create a plan of analysis that allows you the best outcome possible. 4 Chiropractic Stretches for Neck Pain

Our necks are commonly exposed to minor and major injuries. Car accidents, bad posture, text neck, aging, falls, chronic stiffness, the list goes on. Chiropractors are able to often adjust and restore our natural mobility in the neck. However, outside of adjustments, addressing the area on a more daily basis can go even further in your health journey away from pain. Below are 4 stretches that increase flexibility and keep neck movement in check.

Side to side: Rotate head to right without any pressure. Hold pose for 15 seconds and then repeat on left side.

Chin to chest: Lower chin forward. Place hands on the back of your head and gently apply pressure for 15 seconds. This is meant to be a gentle stretch. If you feel like your neck is being exerted, you are doing it wrong.

Arch back: Lead head backwards. This will be a free stretch and doesn’t require added pressure. Hold for 15 seconds. This will stretch front neck muscles.

Lean: Begin by stretching head towards your shoulder. Keep shoulder straight. The goal is to stretch the muscles in your neck. Hold for 15 seconds then switch sides.
